THE MOUNTAIN AND THE PROVISION

Abraham has been my ‘go-to’ person in the Bible while we’ve been on our journey into missions.  I really love his FAITH.   He’s the guy who:

·        Believed God when He said “You will have a son…you will be the Father of a great nation’’ when it seemed impossible...and Sara laughed. (Heb 11:11)

·        Chose to believe in ALL of God’s promises, though he wasn’t perfect, and made some poor choices along the way.  (Gen 20)

·        Picked up his family, his home, his animals, EVERYTHING….and went… “not knowing where he was going”...just trusting God. (Gen 12:4)

·        Trusted God to provide a sacrifice, or raise Isaac, when God asked him to sacrifice his son on the altar. (Gen 22:8,13)

·        Made me see we all have ‘’Isaacs” that we need to be willing to offer up to God with open hands and hearts, trusting God. (Let me just insert here that one my favorite poems is called “Give Me Your Isaac” by Beth Moore-worth the 'google'.)

Honestly why am I going on and on about Abraham? 

Abraham named the place where God spared Isaac and provided the ram in his place ‘Yahweh-Yireh’ (which means "the LORD will provide")  "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided." (Genesis 22:14 NLT)

Yahweh Jireh (Yireh): “The Lord will provide.”  

We had a mountain of our own last week.  We needed to pay Katie’s hospital bill...over $2,000 that insurance wouldn’t cover.  Shonn put it in his binder and planned to pay online this past Wednesday but then we got a call that afternoon.  Kayce, a good friend of Katie’s, works in the billing department of the hospital and said that she thought Katie would qualify for some assistance with her bill. I got a text that evening...it said that the entire bill, including the hospital, radiologist, and anesthesiologist, was PAID IN FULL.  Praise God, our Provider! 

We all have mountains to climb but HE  IS truly Yahweh Jireh! I know that the God of Abraham is my God and will certainly supply all our needs as we continue to seek and trust Him.

DESTINATION: NANTES, FRANCE

In 25 days we will be at Teen Missions International

 beginning our summer adventure!

·        This week, Erinn and I’ll be visiting my parents for a few days in MI while Shonn is taking his last trip for Bethesda to Southern IN.  Lots of emotions have been playing out as he finishes up here in IN June 8^th, with a final end date at Bethesda Lutheran Communities on June 13^th in Watertown, WI. (I finish June 6th) We praise God for the many individuals, friends, and blessings through our 14 years in Indiana!!

Shonn, Erinn, and I will be leaving from Watertown on the 13^th to begin the trip to TMI in Merritt Island, FL for BOOT CAMP.  We’ll be arriving there June 17^th. We’ll have a few days of training, welcome our team of 11 girls & 2 boys, attend the Missions Conference and will begin the actual BC on June 25.  Boot Camp is an intense two weeks of classes that help our team prepare for the 4 ½ weeks we’ll be serving overseas.  There’s Bible classes, puppet classes, music classes, personal devotions, Bible memory, obstacle courses, nightly rallies, etc., to get us ready physically and spiritually. Did I mention there are no electronics of any kind? And we live in tents? In Florida heat and swampland? And do laundry and take showers using buckets? J Now you know why I say it’s an ‘adventure’!

·        In the beginning of July we will head as a team to the city of Nantes, France, to do Bible schools and teach English to the French and Arabic children in this beautiful city. We’ll be working alongside a national pastor and pray we will be both a support and an encouragement in the ministry.  We will be staying in a dorm-like setting overseas.

                             Please pray for our team!

That we will grow spiritually as individuals
That we will grow together spiritually, mentally, and physically
That we will be ‘salt and light’ as we minister in France

       

       WHAT'S NEXT FOR US! 

·        We will be back to Indiana the end of August to continue raising support!  Our goal date to be fulltime staff at TMI is October 1, 2012.  We need approximately $2000 in additional support to go fulltime.

A Legacy

We've been away for a few days...Shonn's dad, George Foy, passed away last week and we headed to Morgantown, Indiana, to celebrate and remember the life of a father and husband.

I thought it was appropriate that I mention him here, since he had a hand in starting the journey of the whole Foy family into missions. Back in 1973, Terry  (Shonn's sister) asked her dad if she could raise support to go on a summer missions trip with a new mission agency, Teen Missions International.  And he said YES.  (On the side, this weekend Terry mentioned  that the first night there, they trudged through mud and slept across folding chairs...I'm grateful for the paved paths and tent I'll be sleeping in at Boot Camp!)

His 'yes' lead to all of his grandchildren (usually at age 15/16) attending a summer serving the Lord with TMI.  The list looks like this...

Stepping Out

We're new to the world of blogging but excited to have this tool that will let us share how God has been working in the Foy family! I (Lori) have been designated the "Chief  Communication Specialist" so I'll try to give you a synopsis of what's been happening.

6 months ago we actively began to pursue a new direction God has called us to.  We wrote a letter and began sending it to some friends and family to let them know of God’s moving in our lives.

Long story short:  God has called our family to Teen Missions International (TMI) as full time missionaries!  (Check out their website at www.teenmissions.org ) Lord-willing, we’ll become full time staff October 1, 2012. 

Never Heard of Teen Missions? It’s an interdenominational ministry whose mission is:  “To build youth spiritually, to install a missionary Vision and seek every opportunity publicly, privately, and through the local Church to bring people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ”.  Our oldest 3 have done 5 summer trips with TMI to Nepal, Africa (both boys), Ireland, and Haiti. Through our kids’ connections we’ve grown to love TMI and desire to be part of their global ministry.  

• The headquarters is in Merritt Island, Florida (where we will begin)
• There are 29 TMI bases worldwide
• 26 TMI Bible Institutes worldwide training nationals to minister in their own countries
• 39 TMI Boot Camps preparing teens worldwide to be missionaries in their own countries
• 35 TMI Aids Orphans Rescue Units
• 7 TMI Matron Units working with youth women
• 4 TMI Motorcycle Sunday School Mission Circuit

Stepping Out:

• Praise the Lord! We sold our house and closed on February 17, 2012!
• Shonn has resigned from Bethesda after 22 years and his last day will be June 13, 2012. I will be done in early June.
• We will be leading 14 teens to Nantes, France this summer from June 20-August 12…but that’s another story!
• We’ll be back in the Midwest from August – October to finish raising support
